Lange, Henry W., composer, pianist, recording artist; b. Toledo, Ohio, July 20, 1895. ASCAP 1924. Of musical parentage. Educ: Toledo public schools; harmony, counterpoint, theory, composition, piano with Arthur Kortheur, Max Ecker. Advanced studies piano and composition with Herman Wasserman. Became pianist for Paul Whiteman's orchestra 1920; played Palais Royale, New York, Ziegfeld Follies, and European tour 1920-24. Conducted stage productions in New York; then became composer to Rudolph Valentino. Gave command performances before royalty, Duke of Windsor, Lord Louis Mountbatten, and was decorated. Was one of three pianists to perform in premiere of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, Aeolian Hall, 1924. Organized own orchestra 1925; became musical director Baker Hotels, Texas. Toured in vaudeville. Since 1936 director of radio station.
